Spectator Sports

The Portland area has a variety of exciting teams to satisfy the needs of even the most avid sports fan. From NBA basketball to Major League soccer and Indy car racing, sports are an important part of who we are as a community.

The Portland Trail Blazers are the pride and joy of Portland area sports. Members of the NBA's Western Conference, the Blazers are consistently in playoff contention. Some of the most boisterous fans in pro basketball make the Rose Garden a true example of home court advantage.

The Portland Winterhawks are Portland's representation in the Western Hockey League, which is a primary source of talent for the NHL. The Rose Garden serves as home ice for the Winterhawks. With 9 division pennants, 8 conference championships, and two Memorial Cup championships in their 27-year history, the Winterhawks are an exciting and successful team.

The Portland Timbers, who play at PGE Park, are an Major League soccer team. The Timbers provide soccer fans the chance to see great soccer and exciting young talent.

The Portland International Raceway is a 1.9-mile asphalt raceway located within city limits, about 3 miles north of downtown Portland. The Rose Cup Races and G.I. Joe's 200 are showcased during the Portland Rose Festival, and throughout the year the raceway is the site of motorcycle, go kart, sports car, and drag races.

The Portland State University Vikings are members of the Big Sky Conference in the NCAA. PSU has men's teams in basketball, cross-country, football, track & field, and wrestling. PSU women compete in basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball.

The University of Portland Pilots belong to the NCAA's West Coast Conference. UP has women's teams in volleyball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track & field. The Pilots field men's teams in baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track & field.
